Resumen:
A thick belt of cataclastic and retrograde metamorphic rocks, was recognized in the western slope of the Serranías del Desierto, San Juan province. These rocks are the result of the tectonic activity of a NNW-SSE megastructure, the Rickard fault, since the Early Triassic. Deformation due to this faulting caused microbreccias and protocataclasites. Retrograde metamorphism closely related to this tectonic activity, resulted in the retrogression of mineral assemblages from amphibolite-granulite facies to greenschist facies.
