Detailed mapping of silicic volcanic rocks in north east Chubut, Argentina: a remote sensing approach

Due to the limited vegetation cover in northeast Chubut, Landsat TM satellite images could be used to create a geological map of a 300 km large area located in Jurassic silicic volcanic rocks of the Marifil and Cerro del lngeniero formations. The boundaries between both formations were mapped in greater detail, and the Marfil Formation was divided into three subdivisions. This helped to clear questions concerning origin and stratigraphy.
