La Serie "Andesítica" eocena a la latitud del río Corintos

The Andesitic Series outcrops in the Rio Corintos valley, in the Sub Andean area northwest of the Chubut province, and is integrated by phenoandesites, associated pyroclastics and basalts. Detailed field work shows three lithological facies: a tuffaceous facies, a lavic facies and a conglomeratic-breccious facies with thin interlayered coal beds. Palynomorphs found in these layers indicate an Upper Eocene-Lower Oligocene age. Rock dating in adjacent areas shows an Eocene age. Eocene andesitic volcanism indicates a reactivation of the continental margin of the South American Plate during this period.
