From t h e Early Jurassic onwards an intense magmatism related to the active continental margin developed on the Patagonian Cordillera. The plutonic rocks from the Andean Batholith and calc - alkalic volcanics comprise a wide compositional range which varies from granites to gabbros for the plutonics and from rhyolites to andesites for the volcanics. The petrography and the rock association are distinctive of the type I (Cordilleran), although the A12 03 content is anomaly high. Trace element patterns support a similar magmatic evolution for the granitoids and volcanic sequences which might differ from the gabbros.
