The Futalaufquen granite is a complex pluton whose composition varies from granites to diorites. It is intruded by a mafic dyke system. Geochemical data suggest a fractionated crystallization from a relatively primitive source related to a volcanic arc. 87Sr/86Sr and 87Rb/86Sr ratios furnish an age determination of 125±3.2 Ma. Reported data, when compared with other data from the geologic literature, show a substantial homogeneity fro the Patagonian Batholith.
