Resumen:
We study the dynamics of a model that describes the competitive interactions between a parasite and its antibodies during the acute phase of an infection. The model was successfully applied to describe the Tripanosoma cruzi invasion in the Chagas disease. Depending on the antibody and parasite properties, the model can yield three different outcomes: healing, death, and chronic disease. The antibodies are assumed to be able to “learn”, increasing their avidity for the parasite. We present phase portraits of the evolving populations and study the stability of the solutions. A special regime in which the outcome depends on the initial parasite population is analyzed in detail.
