Resumen:
The application of a subtractive strategy to genetically compare Anaplasma marginale against the less virulent related microorganism Anaplasma centrale led to the identification of a gene product highly similar to the Patatin-Like Protein (PLPs) family. Patatin is the major storage glycoprotein found in potatoes and is endowed for phospholipase A2 (PLA2)activity. The membranolytic activity of PLA2 supports the hypothesis of PLPs as virulence genes candidates. In this report we have used computational tools to characterize structural and evolutionary aspects of A. marginale and A. centrale PLPs.
