Resumen:
The objectives were to evaluate the effects of high temperatures during the critical period for yield determination in cotton on (i) leaf photosynthetic rate and (ii) the retention of reproductive structures and number of bolls, in two genotypes with different days to maturity. A negative effect of high temperatures on the photosynthetic rate was determined by an acclimation effect, instead of an instantaneous impact. In addition, thermal stress was more harmful during the second part of the critical period, because the damage during the first part was compensated with new boll retention along the period after the end of the stress.
