Resumen:
This work deals with the study of the glycerol electro-oxidation mechanism, the reaction products and their dependence on electrode potential on carbon supported platinum nanoparticles (PtNPs/C) in acid media. Carbon supported NPs were obtained by polyols method. Different carbon supports were used, i.e., Vulcan XC72®, multi wall carbon nanotubes and Chezacarb. The catalytic activity of Pt-C nanoparticles was tested using conventional electrochemical techniques. Also, in situ FTIRS was used to investigate the global electro-oxidation reaction mechanism and to gain some knowledge about the adsorption-oxidation steps involved during the electro-oxidation of glycerol. FTIRS experiments allowed identifying some electro-oxidation products which assisted to formulate a reaction mechanism concerning glycerol electro-oxidation.
