Resumen:
MccJ25, anantimicrobial peptide,was unable to cause apoptosis of COS-7cells inspite of inducingreactive-oxygen speciesoverproductionaswellascytochrome c release fromisolatedmitochondria.Surprisingly, MccJ25-Ga,anamidatedvariantofMccJ25thatdisplayssimilaranti-mitochondrialeffects,did induceapoptosisinCOS-7.Theonlydifferencefoundbetweentheactivitiesofthesepeptideswastheunpredicted inhibitionofmitochondrialRNAsynthesisbyMccJ25-Ga.Theseresultsledustohypothesizethat bothmitochondrialRNApolymeraseandmitochondrialmembranemightbethemoleculartargetsof MccJ25-Gainmitochondriaandthiscombinedeffectmayleadtoapoptosis.
