Resumen:
The best known Neogene units of the northwestern Argentina (NWA) are located at the intermountain valleys of the region. Conversely, the Neogene levels from lowland areas, Chaco-Pampeana region, have been scarce studied. In this contribution we present a new fossil remain association from the Las Cañas Formation, increasing the mam- mal diversity of the NWA. The particular location of this outcrops, at the east of the Sierras Pampenas Norocciden- tales, allowing us to analyze the Pliocene lowland fauna. The record includes the first occurrence of the rodent Ca- viinae (Galea sp.); Xenarthra, Dasypodidae (Proeuphractus sp.); and notoungulates Hegetotheriidae (Tremacyllus incipiens) and Toxodontidae (Pisanodon; Dinotoxodon cf. D. paranensis). Due to the morphological singularity of specimens, added to geographical location of this outcrops, this preliminary study provides a starting points for future encompassing analysis into the biostratigraphy regional scheme.
