Resumen:
New species of Proeuphractus (Xenarthra, Dasypodidae, Euphractinae) of the Late Pliocene of Santiago del Estero. Bioestratigraphic considerations. A dorsal caparace fragment of dasipodids with five movable bands and some fixed osteoderms of the pelvic shield is recognized. The specimen comes from Las Cañas Formation (Late Pliocene), outcropping in the locality Cañada de la Costa, near of Las Termas de Río Hondo city (Santiago del Estero province). It is assigned to Proeuphractus by the location of the piliferous foramina on the posterior margin and both lateral margins of the osteoderms. The new specimen is greater (more than twice the length and width) than the type species, P. limpidus and has its own characteristics in the ornamentation of the osteoderms, which allows it to be assigned to a new species. This record permit to extend the biochron of the genus Proeuphractus from the Late Miocene to the Late Pliocene.
