Resumen:
In the Tafí del Valle region, in northwestern Argentina, several intrusive bodies of lower Paleozoic age are emplaced in a low to medium metamorphic grade basement. One of these plutons, the El Pabellón Granite, was not studied in detail previously. In order to complete the model of the lower Paleozoic magmatic evolution of the Tafí del Valle region new petrographic and geochemical data are presented. The El Pabellón Granite shows calc-alkaline and peraluminous signature. It presents two distinctive units: 1) A leucocratic (muscovite) unit which is placed in the compositional range of S-type magmas described in the region, trending with increasing peraluminosity to the composition of the metamorphic host rocks. 2) A biotite-muscovite unit that shows intermediate geochemical characteristics between the granitoids that present cotectic evolutions with evidence of Cpx + Pl fractionation (like El Infiernillo and La Ovejería intrusives) and the regional metasedimentary rocks.
