Resumen:
The exploitationof excitedstatechemistryfor solarenergyconversionor photocatalysishas beencontinuouslyincreasing, and the needsof a transitionto a sustainablehumandevelop-mentindicatethis trendwill continue. In this scenario, the studyof mixedvalencesystemsin the excited stateoffersa uniqueopportunityto exploreexcitedstateelectrontransferreactivity, and, in a broadersense, excitedstatechemistry. This Conceptarticleanalyzesrecentcontributionsin the fieldof photo-inducedmixedvalencesystems,i.e.thosewherethe mixedvalencecoreis absentin the groundstatebut createduponlight absorption. The focusis on the utilizationof photoinducedintervalencechargetransferbands, detectedvia transientabsorptionspectroscopy,as key toolsto studyfundamentalphenomenalike donor/acceptorinversion,holedelocalization,coexistenceof excitedstatesand excitedstatenature, togetherwith applicationsin molecularelectronics.
