Resumen:
When producing barley malt, used in beer and whiskey production, germination is a must. Usually, grain germination efficiency is assessed by checking viability through the tetrazolium test. However, we have found grains from sites with a particularly unbalanced nitrogen (N) and sulphur (S) fertility to pass the tetrazolium test, while failing to germinate. For these reason, the aim of this work was to asses the effect of a sulphur deficiency during grain filling on the germination of barley grains.
