Matrix Valued Special Functions

The invited conference starts by taking a glance at E. Cartan´s point of view of the interesting and fruitful connection between a large class of special scalar functions and the representation theory of Lie groups. Then we introduce matrix valued spherical functions on locally compact groups, matrix orthogonal polynomials and the matrix Euler´s hypergeometric defferential equation. The connection between these subjects is illustrated by considering the complex projective space.
