Resumen:
The presentation will start by taking a glance at E. Cartan´s point of view of the interesting and fruitful connection between a large class of special scalar valued functions and the representation theory of Lie groups. Then we will introduce matrix valued spherical functions on locally compact groups, matrix orthogonal polynomials and the matrix valued Euler´s hypergeometric differential equation.
