Resumen:
This work aims to introduce the main characteristics and advantages of Constrain Programming (CP) techniques when they are used to tackle the scheduling problem at manufacturing settings. During the last decades, the scheduling problem has been a challenge to face not only to the academic community but also to the industrial practitioners. Therefore, numerous resolution methodologies have been proposed, being Constrain Programming one of the most suitable techniques to apply in these types of problems. In this work, the main benefits of Constrain Programming are described: (i) simple modelling using a high level language, (ii) incremental development of models, and (iii) instantiation of good quality solutions in short computational times, among other advantages. Finally, the obtained results using CP models for different case studies are shown. Diverse industrial environments, such as flexible manufacturing systems and batch plants, are addressed.
