Resumen:
The first example of compact symplectic manifold that do not admit a K"ahler structure appeared in the class of nilmanifolds. Since then the study of invariant geometric structures on nilpotent Lie groups has provided interesting results and counterexamples to various conjectures. In this talk we shall consider hypercomplex and hyper-K"ahler with torsion nilmanifolds reviewing known results and we shall also report on some recent work, jointly with M. L. Barberis and M. Verbitsky.
