Resumen:
Heterophyllaea J.D. Hook. (Rubiaceaea) is a South American genus represented by only two species1 that were described as phototoxic plants. Heterophyllaea pustulata Hook f. grows in the Andean northwest of Argentina, Bolivia and Peru and has been highly studied in our research group from the chemical point of view and the pharmacological potentiality of its constituents 2,3. Heterophyllaea lycioides (Rusby) Sandwith, is a shrub of 1-2 meters high with distribution in the Andean region of Bolivia and Peru1 and it has no previous reports that reveal the nature of the active compounds responsible for the phototoxicity attributed to this plant. Therefore, the aim of this work is a chemical study of the major secondary metabolites from H. lycioides.
