Resumen:
Enediynes represent an extraordinary class of potent antitumor antibiotics isolated from bacteria and invertebrates. The exceptional bioactivity exerted by these metabolites is due to their unique chemical structure and mechanism of action. Advances in genomic sciences revealed that the potential for the biosynthesis of enediyne compounds is widely spread in bacteria. But contrary to expectations, the number of isolated enediynes remains low. Aiming to summarize relevant information for the cautious isolation of these compounds, this chapter reviews the biological, physical and chemical factors that affect stability, yields, and early detection of active forms.
