Resumen:
Atamisqui (Capparis atamisquea Kuntze) is an autochthonousplant widely distributed in Chile and northwest Argentina, traditional medicineattributes digestive property. The delay of the gastric emptying has its origin in amotor disorder, anthric stenosis, or diabetic neuropathy¡¯s gastroparesis. Thesearch for more effective and safe prokinetic drugs is a current challenge. Theaim of the present study was to evaluate the effect on gastric emptying of C. atamisquea leaves 5% infusion (I) and 10% hydroalcoholic extractin 70 ¨¬ ethanol (EHA). Also, qualitativeand quantitative phytochemical studies of the extracts were carried out. Agastric emptying test was performed on male Wistar rats using 0.05% w / v PhenolRed marker. (n = 6 animals/group): 1-negative control, 2 and 3: positivecontrols (Metoclopramide 3 mg / kg orally and Cinitapride, 1 mg / kg orally) 4and 5: treated respectively with I and EHA (150 mg / kg orally). To study theinvolvement of the cholinergic pathway in the observed effect an in vivo atropine blockade (3mg / kgsubcutaneous route) was performed. The extractsanalyzed accelerated gastric emptying significantly p¡Â0.05 in comparison to thenegative control, in addition this effect was blocked by atropinepretreatment. Therefore, these results suggest that Atamisqui leaf extractshave a gastric prokinetic effect and the cholinergic route would be involved.Additional studies will be needed to determine the active principle (s) and toknow better the underlying mechanisms.
