The addition of inorganic nanoparticles to block copolymers (BC) is a potential route for the fabrication of novel functional materials. The domain structure of BC provides a template within which the inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) can be organized. In this work we assembled PSSH-coated Au NPs into PS-b-PMMA films and studied the effects of ligand molecular weight and thermal annealing on the final morphologies of the nanocomposites. (b) (a) FESEM morphologies of BC films modified with PSSH-Au indicated a clustering/coalescence process occurring probably during the thermally induced self assembly process. Besides, preferential head to tail arrangement is promoted for higher amounts of NPs, leading to the formation of metal nanorods distributed in the PS phase of the BC film.
