Resumen:
The
properties of polycaprolactone (PCL) and polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) can be
enhanced or tuned by nanoparticles incorporation depending on the requirements
of the application. In the case of PCL, our studies were focused on packaging
applications and disposable polymer products for which the material needs to
maintain its properties on service but short degradation
times in landfill burial sites are desired. PCL/clay nanocomposites were prepared in order to
improve the competitiveness of PCL in comparison with commodities. Commercial
and laboratory modified clays were used and the processing parameters and
technique on the final performance of the nanocomposites were analyzed. In the
case of PVA, PVA hydrogels were prepared and their properties were tuned by
incorporation of hydroxyapatite (HA) nanoparticles, nanoclays and iron oxides in
order to meet the requirements of some specific biomedical applications such as
replacement of diseased or damaged articular cartilage, wound dressing and targeting
drug delivery systems, respectively.
