Resumen:
The preparation of nanoparticles of noble metals by a biosynthetic pathway has gained interest in recent years, given its low cost, simple experimental development and use of "friendly" solvents to the environment, since it does not require toxic reducing agents or organic solvents. The aim of this study was to obtain and characterize silver nanoparticles by bio-reduction of AgNO3 with an extract of Aloysia citriodora Palau (lemon verbena), a native species to our country. The aqueous extract of dried leaves and stems of lemon verbena obtained by decoction was added while stirring to an aqueous solution of AgNO3. The characterization of the nanoparticles was performed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) and dynamic light scattering (DLS). Silver nanoparticles of 40 nm were obtained by this route with an acceptable degree of dispersion of sizes. In conclusion, the use of the aqueous extract of lemon verbena is an interesting alternative route to obtained silver nanoparticles because of its good performance, low cost and simplicity.
