Resumen:
Abstract Intestinal parasites outline of Mbyá Guaraní communities from Misiones (Argentina) were described, and associated with nutritional status, environmental and cultural factors. The results were compared with those obtained in Takuapí (TA), a neighbor aboriginal population, and the nearest urban population, Aristóbulo del Valle (AV). The techniques of Ritchie, Willis and Kato Katz were used to analyze the fecal samples. Anthropometric parameters were analyzed and earth samples processed. On a total sample of 296 individuals analyzed in the four populations 100 (87.7%), 63 (88.7%), 49 (96.1%) and 50 (82%) were parasited in KP, YP, TA, and AV respectively. A 84% of the parasited individuals were poliparasited. 43% of the measured individuals presented malnutrition and 87% of them were parasited. There was association between use of latrines and Giardia lamblia (p <0.01); open sky defecation, footwear absence and hookworms (p <0.01); housing type and total helminthes (p <0.01). In the floor there was parasitic contamination. These results suggest the relationship between environmental contamination and high prevalence of intestinal parasites in these human populations.
