Resumen:
Introduction: IDMPS is a multinational observational survey to collect, analyze and disseminate data on diabetes treatment. It is a five year study (2006-2012) with five annual waves. Objective: to determine clinical and metabolic profile of people with type 2 diabetes attended by diabetologists and non-diabetologists in Argentina. Materials and methods: Observational study of 2719 participants with waves consisting of a 2-week cross-sectional and a 9-month longitudinal survey. Clinical, metabolic and therapeutic profiles were analyzed. Results are presented as mean ± standard deviation (SD) or proportions. The results are expressed as the minimum-maximum value corresponding to the 5 waves. Results: 87-90% are urban cases, 86-94% with health coverage and 87-100% attended by diabetologists. The mean age was 62±10-65±10 years, 46-53% were female, with 9-12 years diabetes duration. According to Body Mass Index, 37-39% of the patients were overweight and 44-52% were obese, with high waist circumference in 63-70% of women (>88 cm.) and in 39-52% of men (>102 cm.). High blood pressure had 69-74% of patients, 44-55% A1c 100 mg/dl and 20-23% low HDL-cholesterol. Diabetic complications were present in 36-57% of participants, 10-18% had previous cardiovascular events, 0.5-2% amputations and 0-9% required revascularization. Conclusion: Around half of the patients do not achieve A1c
