Resumen:
INTRODUCTION Some drugs used against malaria that contain the aromatic quinolinyl segment, produce phototoxic side effects that have been associated with ROS (reactive oxygen species)1. Studies on antimalarial drugs as primaquine and quinine have shown that the phototoxic effect comes from the 6-methoxyquinolinyl segment2 and was found that 6-Methoxyquinoline (6MQ) has a quantum yield of singlet oxygen generation of 0.96 ± 0.08 in reference to perinaphtenone. This high quantum yield suggests that 6-methoxyquinoline derivative compounds could exhibit highly oxidant properties and used in advanced oxidation processes. 6MQ is an easily oxidizable liquid compound. With the aim of improve its stability it was synthesized a Mercury (II) complex with 6MQ as ligand.
