Resumen:
The influence of aluminium addition in high manganese TRIP steels is generally reduced to its capacity of increasing the stacking fault energy of the alloy. In this work, an additional interpretation of aluminium effect on HMn-TRIP steels is given by means of two laboratory cast with the compositions Fe-15Mn-3Si and Fe-18Mn-2Si-2Al wt.%. At solution annealed and water quenched condition we observe an almost complete martensitic transformation (epsilon + alpha-prime) in the Fe-15Mn-3Si alloy, while the Fe-18Mn-2Si-2Al composition presents a fully austenitic matrix. Measurements of martensite start temperature showed a 220°C lower value for the Fe-18Mn-2Si-2Al alloy in comparison to the Fe-15Mn-3Si composition. Such difference cannot be explained by the modification on manganese and silicon contents. Thus, the effect of aluminium addition on high manganese steels is discussed in terms of austenite stability as well.
