Resumen:
Increasing light-weight alloys in the automotive industry will lower fuel consumption and gas emissions. Weight reduction must be accompanied by higher security standards, including larger energy absorption in case of impacts. TRIP and TWIP steels fulfil these requirements. The Fe-18Mn-2Si-2Al TRIP steel was produced and tensile tested optimising these properties. We quantified the evolution of phases by XRD and microstructure by EBSD to clarify the tensile deformation mechanism vs. strain rate and suitability for impacts.
