Resumen:
Hydrogen content trapped in the steel, promotes detrimental effects on mechanical properties and important material losses during forming processes. Also, many steel components develop premature fracture in service because of the embrittlement caused by this element presence. The hydrogen diffusion is very high in metals and it is strongly determined by temperature, alloy chemical composition and crystalline structure. For this reason, the study on metal-hydrogen system has had a relevant scientific research interest. Nevertheless, up to now it is not completely understood. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the hydrogen effect on the cyclic behaviour of high strength steel. Samples of this steel were charged with gaseous hydrogen previous to fatigue tests. Cyclic tests were performed under total strain deformation. It is important to remark that neither the fatigue life nor the fatigue behaviour seems to be affected by the hydrogen presence. Moreover, manifestations of dynamic strain aging through inverse dependence of the peak tensile stress with strain rates were not found in charged samples.
