Resumen:
Rolling temperature affects the microstructure and, therefore, the final physical and mechanical properties of the sheet, as well. Texture could be affected and dynamic recrystallization during deformation may occur. In this work, we studied the effect of the heat loss during processing, since the sheet is removed from the muffle furnace and is in air for several seconds before it enters the rolling gap. Therefore, the exact rolling temperature as a function of the sheet thickness must be established. An experimental procedure was designed to accomplish this and all devices were setup. The measurements were made at different furnace temperatures and for different thickness and widths of specimens. From these, the final results were analyzed. The difference between the actual specimen temperature at the entrance of the rolling mill and the temperature of the furnace was determinated. Due to the transfer from the furnace to the mill and sample contact with de support table, rolls and tweezers, the specimen experienced substantial heat loss, its temperature decreasing by as much as 240°C, depending on the particular case. Heat loss increase with the rolling temperature, and is inversely proportional to specimen thickness. On the other hand, as the thickness is reduced, the temperature difference between the sheets?s leading and trailing edges increases. Finally, we suggest ways to improve the procedure in order to better control the process variable.
