Resumen:
By means of cyclic deformation experiments, using rotating bending, resonance and servohydraulic testing machines as well as ultrasonic fatigue devices, in combination with SEM surface analysis, it was shown that the fatigue damage behaviour of duplex steels is governed by the presence of grain and phase boundaries. Depending on the spatial arrangement of the respective slip systems, the local formation of shear bands as well as their propagation across the boundaries can be explained. Later in the fatigue life, the shear bands act as nuclei for crack initiation, propagation and, eventually, fracture.
