"Topological Synthesis of Mechanisms for Circuit Breakers": The aim of this report is to introduce the systematic enumeration of topologies of circuit breaker mechanisms. Four associated graphs of the initial parts are defined for the ground, handle, rod, contact carrier, and delatching lever bodies. The design space is limited to mechanism topologies derived from 39 two-DOF simple-jointed kinematic chains up to 9 links and 11 joints. In a first search, only the initial graph of the main parts and the degree constraints of these parts are considered. Since many unfeasible solutions were obtained in this search, a more complex constraint is proposed to avoid topologies with handle and contact located inside a one-DOF submechanism. A second search fulfilling this additional constraint is shown and analyzed in this report. From those results, two additional constraints involving one-DOF submechanisms were proposed to include conditions required for the kinematic locking of the delatching lever and the mobility of the delatching lever with locked handle. A third search including three complex constraints was performed producing 635 solutions. A set of mechanisms provided by ABB Company in the form of hand written sheets with the graphs of the metamorphic topologies is used to validate the results. The enumerated mechanisms not matched with the topologies of the mechanisms existing in the market can be considered as a source of potentially new designs.
