Resumen:
Trabajo Aceptado In the era of genetically modified organisms for manufacturing a plethora of biotech products cells are taken as true living production units which highlights the importance of scaling-up knowledge for both feasibility and economics of new products. Due to the inherent complexity associated with living systems (which have many sophisticated homeostatic strategies at different molecular levels, i.e. genetic, translational, metabolic effectors and continually tested environmental condiction), quickly changing global markets and competition based on specific customer niches, detailed model development is a very hard, time consuming and expensive task which is not always affordable for biotech laboratories. Hence, in the attempt to ensure profitability and fast market penetration of innovative bioprocess the usefulness of imperfect models for describing main state variables dynamics in a cell culture for productivity optimization must be assessed
