Resumen:
The present work investigates the feasibility ofimproving the global energy efficiency of a petrochemicalindustry through the combination of an organic Rankine cyclewith the refrigeration system of two specific copolymerizationprocesses. The proposed energy system allows the productionof electricity from industrial waste heats and simultaneouslyprovides an alternative solution to improve the regulation ofthe reaction temperatures in the process. The performances ofa supercritical and a subcritical ORC are compared at steadystateconditions. Main simulation results show the feasibility ofimplementing the proposed combined system. It is proven thatthe electrical energy produced through the present proposalcan reach ~40 % of the electrical energy demanded by therefrigeration system.
