Sheet Moulding Compound with Improved Mechanical Properties

This work studies the synthesis of styrene copolymers obtained from the reaction between isophthalic unsaturated polyester resins and styrene with the aim of improving the mechanical properties of SMC, specifically its flexibility. The experimental work involves the experimental design; the material synthesis with different percentages (0%, 2%, and 5%) of additives (methylmethacrylate, MMA; diethylenglycol, DEG; and dioctilphthalate, DOP); and the mechanical characterization including measurements of strain-stress curves (with a Universal Machine Shimadzu DSS-10T Model); flexural strength, flexural modulus and energy of fracture.
