Resumen:
A new method is proposed for estimating the particle size distribution (PSD) of a colloidal system from multiangle dynamic light scattering (MDLS) measurement. The proposed method utilizes a particle swarm optimization algorithm to solve the involved non-linear ill-conditioned inverse problem that consists in estimating the PSD on the basis of average diameters derived from the measured autocorrelation functions. Several kinds of PSOs were implemented based on the simulation of simple social models for the movement of fish schools and bird flocks, and their performance was evaluated. The results show that PSOs could successfully estimate the PSDs with reduced computing times.
