Resumen:
Globally, there is a growing interest in energy storage systems technologies due to the effects they have on electric power systems. In this field, this paper presents a novel mathematical model that assets an objective quantification of the impact of main energy storage systems on a large scale electric power system. The model is developed to analyze the storage systems by considered real and simulated situations. The model is obtained by applying linearization techniques to several system constraints. In order to achieve a complete study, it will be necessary to consider the relationships among power systems, storage systems, and fuel supplies. It allows obtaining more real solutions. The system selected for the study is the Argentine Storage System, composed mainly by the pumped energy storage technology and the natural gas storage system through pipelines. Five scenarios are studied. According to the obtained results, pumped storage system constitutes a reserve of 0.4% of the total generated power. The storage of natural gas allows cost reductions of up to 3% with an average of 207 MMm3. The methodology of how extending the proposed model to all test cases is also included.
