Resumen:
This paper shows the ability of a new thermophilic archeon to bioleach an ore form Hualilan (San Juan, Argentina) and to solubilize metals mainly zinc. This species has been isolated from the geothermal Caviahue-Copahue system located in the north-west of Neuquén Province, Argentina. Cells of this species are able to grow in autotrophic and heretotrophic media, and under aerobic or anaerobic conditions. The comparison of bioleaching efficiency when adding different energy sources was also studied. Results show that the addition of potassium tetrathionate to the culture medium significantly enhances the activity of these microorganisms on the ore.
