Taxonomic features of Panicum obtusum, a species ranging from Southern United States to Central Mexico and previously classifi ed in subg. Agrostoides, sect. Obtusa of Panicum, are reviewed and compared with other taxa in the tribe Paniceae. The species is transferred to the new genus Hopia on the basis of morphological and molecular characters.
