Resumen:
We investigated the physical and chemical characteristics of the MBT compost-like output (CLO) in relation to its use as landfill biocover and carrier of methane oxidation. After one year of monitoring, the MBT CLO had high porosity and adequate water retention, which are fundamental characteristics for insuring good permeability of oxygen and methane. Once applied in the field, it reached acceptable levels of stabilization and maintained its structural properties throughout one year. Importantly, the material sustained vegetation growth and provided a suitable media for methanotrophs.
