Resumen:
This field trip guide documents the
geologic features of the foredeep of the foreland Austral Basin of Tierra del Fuego
in two main parts. The first part consists of a review of the evolution of the
Mezosoic-Cenozoic stratigraphy of the Fuegian Andes that accompanies the main
description and interpretation of the Upper Oligocene-Miocene deep marine
depositional sequences with the discussion of their architectural elements,
geometries, hyperpycnal facies arrangements, and the implications for
hydrocarbon exploration, together with their ichnology. The second part focuses
on the sedimentological field trip of two days, with a first excursion day
concentrated on the analysis of the architectural elements that constitute the
deep marine channel-levee complexes in the locality of Cabo Viamonte, and a
second day concerned with the internal arrangements of hyperpycnal lobe
deposits in submarine ramp systems at the Cabo Ladrillero locality.
