Resumen:
The book looks at the interaction between research findings, evidence-based knowledge and trade policymaking during structural reform programs in Latin America from the 1990s to the present. It hopes to contribute to the growing debate on the role played by ideologies and epistemic networks in trade liberalization negotiations and to provide data and empirical information on how local knowledge and academics have contributed to its implementation at national and regional scenarios. Neoliberal reforms were put on the national public agenda by international financial institutions -World Bank, IMF. IDB- as a condition for loans to alleviate debt problems. However, their implementation required specific knowledge and expertise from local experts in order to gain social legitimacy if to be effectively implemented.
