Resumen:
Irradiation treatment of foodstuffs is an advantage for safe storage and is accepted for consumption in more than 40 countries. The control and level of aromatic species as Oregano like foodstuffs should be of interest to the regulatory authority. In that case, a reliable method for detecting the irradiated oregano is needed [1,2]. In this work, the polymineral fraction separated from Mexican oregano was characterized by XRD and SEM. Quartz and potassic feldspar particles less than 200 µm were identified. The polyminerals were exposed to gamma dose of less than 1500 Gy in a 60Co irradiator. IR diodes of PSL was used to stimulate and for the detection of irradiated oregano. The dose-response, detection limit and fading of photostimulation were analyzed. These characteristics were also studied by thermoluminescence. The TL detection limit at 200 Gy was determined. The TL is a more sensible method than PSL to identify the commercial Mexican oregano.
