The leishmaniases are parasitic diseases spreading in 88 countries around the World; their control requires the development of new tools in diagnosis, vaccines and treatments. We have been applying the Leishmania parasite genome-knowledge, proteomics, and recombinant DNA techniques for the selection and synthesis of polypeptide antigens to design sensitive and specific inmunodiagnosis or immunoprophylaxis that would be applied and used in the endemic developing countries.
