Resumen:
Metabolic syndrome (MS) is a serious consequence of overweight and obesity. Association studies between high-density energetic foods (HDEF, 4-9 kcal/g) consumption and MS in Argentina are rare. Herein we tested whether there is an association between HDEF consumption and MS in a population-based study in 250 adult patients (18-80 years-old) residing in San Luis City, San Luis, Argentina, between 2015-2017. Socio-demographic, anthropometric and HDEF consumption data were obtained using a validated food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). When obtained an informed consent from the patient, a blood sample was obtained (n=79) for biochemical analysis. We diagnosed MS when the patient showed at least 3 of the following: central obesity (waist circumference, >102(men)/88(women) cm; high blood pressure (HBP, systolic->130 and diastolic-blood pressure>85 mmHg, o medicated); hypertriglyceridemia (TG>150 mg/dL); and low plasma-HDL-c (
