Resumen:
Objective: To communicate two cases of children with troublesome diagnosis. Cases: Two girls born to HIV-1 infected mother were followed-up since bird, to 33 and 34 months old. Results: Blood samples were obtained periodically for clinical laboratories immunologic and virologic studies. No syrnptoms related to HIV-1 infection were detected. Growth curves (cephalic perimeter height and weight) for age and sex hemograms. proteinograms. CD8- CD4 lymphocyte counts were always normal in both cases. Conclusions: According the CDCs criteria for pediatric HIV- 1 infection (1994), both children would be infected. However there is neither evidence of viral replication nor clinical condition of AIDS. Are these tree children infected ? Are  they infected with a defective HIV variant?  ln any case follow-up it mandatory-
