Resumen:
Obiective. To know the HIV prevalence in a selected cale population in consultation for a sexually transmited disease (STO). Methods. Among outpatients consultlng between Apr’fl-.October 1987 for an STO, but unbias about HIV infection, 285 males (median age 27) wlth sorne HIV rlsk factors were selected. 80% of them declare they had 2 or more previous STO infectlons. Antl-HIV antibodies were screened by EIA and particle agglutinatlon and confirmed by Western blot. Results. Total anti-HIV antlbody prevalence was 19.7%. Though similar percentages were found in horno bi or heterosexuals, higher prevalence was associated to promisculty in horno-bisexuales (24%) and with IV drug addiction (IVDA) fn heterosexuals (73%). Conclusions. Findings point to a considerable proportion of HIV Tnfection among STO patlents, unware of the posibllity of being Infected.
