Resumen:
In this work we summarize the Core-Corona effect presented in the article [1] butwith emphasis on the connection with cosmic rays observables. We extend part of theanalysis to SIBYLL 2.3d and we give an updated comparison with the Auger datausing the z-scale. Also, we further explain in the appendix the details on how theCore-Corona model is implemented inside CONEX.Recent measurements at the LHC confirm features that can be linked to a mixtureof different underlying particle production mechanisms such as a collective statisticalhadronization (core) in addition to the expected string fragmentation (corona).Since the two mechanisms have a different electromagnetic energy fraction, theyhave a large impact on the number of muons produced in air shower cascades. Wepresent a possible connection between statistical hadronization in hadron collisionsand muon production in air showers. Then we demonstrate that the core-coronaeffect could be part of the solution for the lack of muon production in simulations ofhigh energy cosmic rays.
